about

A hundred years ago, many musicians had to flee from the Bolshevik Reign and start their new life in the Western World. Some of these musicians recorded songs in exile, and these recordings were saved in libraries and national archives.

Now these songs serve as a source of inspiration and composition for another creative soul from Russia living abroad, London-based producer frailtynine.

This set is dedicated to people who had lost their homes because of war and political repressions.

All sounds are made with samples from old immigrant songs. Drums are provided by late Gregory Coleman, the author of the most important drum sample in the history, the Amen Break.

Track ‘hi’ samples Anti-Soviet propaganda song by David Medoff with lyrics that can be translated as ‘In Russia wheat-gatherers die of hunger’. The mere existence of such song became a starting point for this project as it reflects the reality of anti-Putin resistance in exile that takes place right now.
